What we need

We'd love to work with a leadership coach who has worked with nonprofit boards, or at least understands the special challenges faced by nonprofit organizations in engaging voluntary board leaders. We need:

  • Up to 4 coaching sessions with our Executive Director and newly-elected Board Chair
  • Actionable steps and advice to strengthen relationship between ED and Board leadership
  • Assessment of the effectiveness of our organization's leadership team
What we have in place
  • We are in the process of completing work on outlining a Board recruitment strategy, and we have completed a round of satisfaction interviews with key investor/partners of our organization. We have also just completed a major survey of food safety educators nationwide (with response rate of nearly 4%). We have been operating under a solid strategic plan for the past 2 years, and believe now is a critical time to anticipate the leadership needs of the organization for the next 2-3 years.
How this will help
This project will save us $4,198 , allowing us to refresh our award-winning website serving 24000 web visitors each month.

We have struggled with the role of Board Chair for several years, as a result of which our Board is not functioning at the level where it should be. We believe leadership coaching involving the ED and the newly-elected Board Chair will go a long way to setting a powerful course for effective leadership in the next couple of years.

Our mission

The mission of the Partnership for Food Safety Education is to end illness and death from foodborne infection in the United States.

The Partnership brings together public and private sector organizations to focus on prevention of food poisoning in the United States.

What we do

The Partnership is a catalytic leader in health education and a trusted partner to tens of thousands of health educators nationwide.

The organization stands at a critical point --- where organizational capacity needs to be aligned with a well-developed, ambitious strategic plan built in 2011 with input from stakeholders. We are determined to strengthen capacity to move from good to great!

The Partnership delivers trusted, science-based behavioral health messaging and a network of resources that support consumers in their efforts to reduce risk of foodborne infection.

The Partnership's Strategic Plan includes three focus areas: 1) Convenes and Supports: The Partnership convenes practitioner communities inside and outside government to work together to improve outcomes in food safety education; 2) Amplifies: The Partnership reaches thousands of educators nationwide, and helps them tell the story of the impact their work has on protecting the health of consumers in their communities; 3) Leads Evaluation: the Partnership leads efforts to evaluate the impact of consumer food safety education , and anticipates needed changes in program approaches that will better align programs with intended outcomes.

The Partnership was created in 1997 through a government-industry-consumer group memorandum of understanding.

The Partnership is the creator and steward of the first-ever national consumer education campaign in food safety -- Fight BAC!® -- and its four core science-based messages of Clean, Separate, Cook and Chill.

Testimonials

Sylvana helped set our new volunteer board chairman on a strong course, and prepared the Chairman and me for developing a powerful day-long retreat for our Board of Directors. It was a great pleasure working with Sylvana - and she went out of her way to support us! We're grateful to have had the opportunity to work with her.
