Board Assessment
Board Assessment
Project details
What we need
- 1-2 page summary of takeaways and trends from interviewing key individuals (no more than 8 interviews total)
- Identification of the board’s strengths and recommendations for areas of improvement for board members collectively and individually
Additional details
During the transition of the Founder from a central leader to rank and file volunteer it is obvious that the Board of Trustees will need to do more to carry on the work done by the Founder. An assessment of this ability seems warranted.
What we have in place
- We currently have 12 Trustees, 9 are active in meetings, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have started the conversation about transition, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $8,773 , allowing us to help support employees and contractors to perform the work done by the Founder.
Since the Board will be much more important to the future success of the organization, this will give Trustees an opportunity to choose how and to what extent they want to be involved after the Founder hands over his duties.
Project plan
Our mission
The Mission is to enrich the lives of the community and visitors with a rural-tourism experience. RVF aims to foster appreciation and preservation of its natural, historical, ecological, and agricultural resources, and to encourage recreation and a healthy lifestyle in the Rockfish Valley.
What we do
The Rockfish Valley Foundation (RVF) is based in Nelson County, Virginia, near Nellysford.
The facilities at RVF include trails along the Rockfish River, the unique Spruce Creek Park off Glenthorne Loop at 1368 Rockfish Valley Highway, Nellysford with its Children's Nature Trail, Natural History Center and Museum, the Native Plant Walk, and plenty of picnic tables.
RVF sponsors several community-wide events during the year. These events this year have been virtual, but after restrictions are lifted, we will return with our usual events. Although the Natural History Center and Museum is closed due to COVID-19 Pandemic, when restrictions are lifted we will re-open the Center on weekends for visitors
Testimonials
This is a recommendation for Kate Carroll. Kate assisted the Rockfish Valley Foundation this fall in working on the transition of the founder and chair of the board of trustees. I am the vice president of the organization. Kate got up to speed very quickly and was comfortable with all of the personalities she was exposed to. She proposed and we accepted a process where she interviewed as many board members as we could make available, found their strengths and weaknesses, and proposed a plan to integrate all the opinions and personalities into a harmonious multi-month transition process. All the while she maintained an orientation to put the welfare of the organization first while addressing the needs and ambitions of all consulted. I strongly recommend Kate for any strategy level role when there are serious differences of opinion as well as personal conflicts.
