What we'd like to talk about

We are part of a coalition of neighborhood organizations that need advice and feedback on how to concisely and effectively convey the impact of our work to residents, funders, and public officials.

"Phone calls" are 1 hour, one-time calls with an organization. Learn the difference between volunteering on a Phone call and a Project here.

Our mission

We provide a way for renters, homeowners, businesses, and nonprofits to create a vibrant, safe, welcoming neighborhood for those who live, work, and visit here.

What we do

Every Saint Paul neighborhood has a district council. Here in District 10, that's us: The Como Community Council.
We are not part of City government or part of a political party. We are an independent nonprofit. We are the glue behind neighborhood action. We connect neighbors with other neighbors who want to accomplish things. And we mix work with fun.
Big picture, we magnify the ideas and power of our community members. We give residents, businesses, and local organizations a constructive, respected, ongoing way to combine voices. We push for decisions that are made from the bottom up, not the top down. We provide a trusted space to talk and listen, the support for grassroots energy, a hub for local partnerships, a way to stay informed, a place to get things done.
When we can, we work cooperatively with institutions, city staff, and elected officials. When we can't, we challenge them. We are accountable to our neighbors, and run by a 17-member board of volunteers elected by our neighbors.

Testimonials

We spoke with Patty Breech and Libby DeLana. Both gave us big picture principles on simplifying our messaging, being consistent in multiple venues, general guidelines on how to rewrite and refocus the talking points we've drafted, and a few concrete possibilities to build around. Patty in particular seemed to do the preliminary research to understand who we are, the challenges we face, and the context in which we operate. I would love to continue the conversation once we do some thinking and refinements on our end.
