Additional details

Center for Council brings community together in meaningful ways. During this pandemic, our "Virtual Council Gatherings" are in great demand - giving access to folks to connect while maintaining "social distancing." The platforms we've used for this (Zoom, Skype, GoogleHangout) have been problematic for us. We want to adapt technology to support an online video meeting that can present participants in a CIRCLE and provide for careful facilitation, controlled muting, interface adaptation by host

What we have in place
  • We have much experience using traditional video meeting/webinar platforms and we have specific ideas about adaptations to create a platform that would enhance the user experience and provide for more meaningful online group connections. We've seen versions of this used in other proprietary settings and would like to develop one in an open-source way that we (and others who offer similar programming) can use without charge and without restriction. There are some key modifications we have in mind
How this will help
This project will save us $1,145 , allowing us to serve countless people longing for community and connection and wanting to experience our work through a user-friendly online video-meeting interface that translates the power of our COUNCIL CIRCLES

Now more than ever, folks are looking for ways to connect and create community amidst the pandemic crisis. Hundreds of folks are turning to us, seeking online experiences that replicate our in-person programming. We are doing the best we can with existing video meeting interfaces but we see the opportunity for meaningful enhancements through technological improvements to the platforms available

Our mission

Center for Council delivers programs and trainings that promote communication, enhance well-being, build community, and foster compassion.

What we do

Our work enables individuals to cultivate tools for improved communication, find common ground with others and create healthy, compassionate and thriving communities. Council fosters recognition of our shared humanity and interconnectedness and enables individuals to give voice to their stories, to develop mutual respect and compassion for others, to cultivate a wholesome response to challenges and stress and to strengthen wellbeing and resilience in themselves and beyond. We like to call it the "ripple effect."

Council practice is at the core of all of our programs. It represents an amalgam of teachings, wisdom traditions and schools of thought from around the globe, blended with science-based mindfulness practices and modern communication techniques developed over several decades. Council offers skillful means for building bridges and developing connection in an increasingly divided world, a tool that can and should be available to all people of all walks of life.
