Project details

What we need
  • Document outlining feedback on pitch delivery with suggested next steps and/or resources
  • A script for a 1-minute verbal pitch that communicates your Organization's mission, work, and why people should care
Additional details

I am the Partnership Program Coordinator at Urban Boatbuilders, and it is my job to find youth-focused organizations (schools, community centers, after-school programs, etc.) and partner with them to build boats, paddles and longboards with youth from their organization. I would like to create and refine my pitch about our partnership program so that when I meet someone who could potentially partner with us I am able to hook their interest.

What we have in place
  • I currently have a booklet we send to potential partners that describes the partnership program and the kinds of woodworking projects we offer. I also have our mission and values statement, along with data about what kinds of organizations we have partnered with in the past. I would be happy to provide other information if you need it.
How this will help
This project will save us $2,397 , allowing us to continue paying our apprentices (youth ages 16-19 in our paid job training program) while our programming is paused due to COVID-19.

Being able to concisely and accurately depict the scope of our partnership program to potential partners in an engaging way will allow us to reach and partner with a greater number of youth-focused organizations. This will further our mission to empower youth to succeed in work and life through
woodworking and experiential learning.

Our mission

It is the mission of Urban Boatbuilders to empower youth to succeed in work and life through woodworking and experiential learning.

What we do

In 1995 a small group of community leaders saw an increased lack of opportunities for youth to learn and develop through hands-on activities, and thus formed the nonprofit Urban Boatbuilders. Since that time, this lack of hands-on opportunities has increased, along with youth unemployment rates and an increased emphasis on standardized testing in schools. Urban Boatbuilders seeks to address the gap this creates for youth to gain technical, social, and emotional skills that will prepare them to pursue their academic and vocational goals. Since Urban Boatbuilders was founded more than 20 years ago, the foundations of hands-on learning and skill-building have been used to create and continuously improve strong programs that help youth prepare themselves to pursue their own success in the modern world.

Testimonials

Tony did a spectacular job in helping me craft a pitch for my organization. He went above and beyond what this project called for in order to make sure that I felt confident and prepared in delivering a pitch at the end of our time working together. He came to our first meeting well prepared, having researched my organization beforehand. Tony facilitated the project with ease, checking in often to make sure that every step of the process fit my and my organization's needs. Throughout our time working together, he was easy and fun to work with, flexible in scheduling, and attuned to what I wanted to get out of this project. Most of all, he worked hard to ensure that this project was designed to benefit my work as much as possible. I cannot recommend working with him enough!

Elevator Pitch Coaching Project

Anais was such a joy to work with on this multi-week elevator pitch project for Urban Boatbuilders. They came into the process with an incredibly open mind, purposeful curiosity, and an intense eagerness to learn and refine their skillset in this particular area. They asked thoughtful questions and demonstrated a clear willingness to 'do the work' all throughout our time together. By the end of the project, they were able to clearly and artfully articulate Urban Boatbuilder's value proposition and purpose in a succinct pitch - a testament to their hard work. I truly felt that my time and input was valued, and would absolutely recommend working with them to any other Catchafire Pro Bono Professionals!
