Facilitated Strategy Session
Project details
What we need
- Expert third party advice on process or managerial changes, geographic or programmatic expansion, potential pivots, or general strategic planning
- Facilitation of an intensive, one-day strategic planning session with staff and/or Board
- Note: If necessary, a follow-up strategic planning session may be scheduled
Additional details
I'm seeking advice on engagement tactics for a coalition focused on childhood obesity. The coalition formed 10 years ago, succeeded with several large projects, and has since ebbed into inactivity for over a year. We are just now ramping up communication with members and planning an initial, reinvigoration meeting. I know what kind of information the coalition leadership is looking for to start deeper strategic planning, but I'd appreciate support in how to engage members right off the bat.
What we have in place
- We currently have a basic plan for re-engaging the coalition, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have several key committed partners, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $4,465 , allowing us to engage communities in conversations and activities to promoting healthy eating and physical activity.
Despite the resources addressing childhood obesity in Arlington, all active organizations in this area have additional needs that are inhibiting expanded or deepened programming. Revitalizing a community coalition could help focus efforts, connect needs with resources, identify gap areas, inspire members, and engage people/organizations not already addressing childhood obesity.
Project plan
Our mission
Our current work is two-pronged: strengthening and engaging a coalition to address childhood obesity and supporting direct programming with youth.
Childhood Obesity was identified as a community health issue through Arlington's 2007 Mobilizing for Action planning process. Public and private organizations partnered together. Some previously supported activities include: surveying playgrounds, investing in healthy vending machines, promoting active recess, and completing a community assessment. Most recently, HCAT worked to strengthen the capacity of Arlington Public Schools to encourage preschool children to eat more healthy foods and be more active in their daily lives.
