Our mission

The mission of the Whittier Area Literacy Council is to build a stronger, more literacy community by connecting those who can help with those who need it the most. Our trained community volunteers provide free individualized tutoring in basic literacy and English as a Second Language for children and adults.

What we do

We recruit and train community volunteers who can commit two hours a week for a year to tutor a low income child or adult. the tutoring sessions are one-on-one and are designed to meet the specific academic or occupational goals of our students.
