Project details

What we need
  • 1-2 page summary of takeaways and trends from interviewing key individuals (no more than 8 interviews total)
  • Identification of the board’s strengths and recommendations for areas of improvement for board members collectively and individually
Additional details

One of our current goals for 2019-2021 is to have a diverse Board of Directors with the mix of talents and backgrounds needed to advance our organization's success. We need to profile our current Board to determine needs, establish and implement effective year-round nominating and recruiting processes, recruit new talent to the Board of Directors with emphasis on increasing racial/ethnic and professional diversity, and orient new Board members.

What we have in place
  • We currently have a three-year strategic plan, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have a Board member statement of understanding, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $8,773 , allowing us to serve more low-income families by helping them navigate their educational choices. As the education landscape continues to change, the need for our programs and services is greater than ever.

We need our Board to be fully invested in our outcomes and feel ownership and accountability to help us achieve our goals. In order to do this, we need to assess current Board practices, develop and implement Board development strategies to address identified needs, establish board roles and responsibilities, and potentially establish an annual board fund.

Our mission

Although families in major cities in Texas have multiple school options available to them beyond their zoned school, a variety of barriers make it very difficult for families, especially resource-constrained families and those with limited English proficiency, to understand their options and exercise school choice. These barriers include lack of parent-friendly information about various types of schools and how to compare them, multiple application processes with different deadlines, and language barriers, among others.

Families Empowered's goal is for ALL families to have access to schools that work, for them.
