The project will provide training space,reading spaceand enoble us to provide all the multiple service of education heaLtd skills development in a one stop center rooted in rural Uganda. Currently we rent multiple places, train the skills development trainees in tents and our skills development are displaced by rain, wind and we incur a lot of tear and Wear. We have no space to store books reading materialsto distribute to satellite libraries and schools
To contribute to holistic development and socio-economic empowerment of children, youth, women and elderly by ensuring that;
a) A Culture of literacy is promoted in households, schools and communities
b) Women and youth have improved standards of living and quality of life;
c) Community members live healthier and more productive lives;
PeerLink Initiative Uganda (PELI-U) empowers communities through the Community Library and Empowerment Center model. The center serves as a one stop point through which community members access services in Education, skills development and Sexual Reproductive Health.
Under Education Program we:
a) We engage in literacy promotion activities e.g. provide reading space, reading materials, facilitate household based reading sessions, guide the set up of community based satellite libraries, conduct school reading out reaches and lobby and advocate for a supportive reading environment in schools, households and community.
b) PELI-U also organizes cultural promotion and preservation activities, community sports activities, Early child care and development (ECCD) Education activities, provide scholarships to Library Scholars and organizes a Get on Board with Campus Life sessions for high school leavers . It also trains primary and secondary school teachers in the use of participatory learner centered methods and Information communication technology in teaching and learning.
Under Skills Development Program PELI-U:
Train youth and women in skills manual trade in;
a) Tailoring and multimedia art and crafts
b) Cookery, baking and house-keeping & Gardening
c) Information Communication Technology/Basic computer skills
d) Work with skills manual trade trainees and their household to engage in household based improvement activities
d) Set up a Tailoring Production Unit & Bag Making Unit through which we produce assorted bags
b) Plan to set a mini confectionery and restaurant
c) Plan to start a micro-credit Low Interest loan giving service to youth & women .
d) Start Hair Dressing & Beauty Salon
e) Plan to set Set up a Book shop within the Library.
Under Sexual Reproductive Health Program we:
a) Train school based and community based peer educators
b) Hold Sexual Reproductive Health Dialogue sessions with stakeholders (Subcounty leaders, health workers, religious leaders, school administrators and management and parents.
c) Hold school based and community based SRH/HIV/AIDS sensitization seminars for youth
d) Train teachers on SRH
e) Lobby & advocate for youth friendly healthy service provision,
f) Refer and link youth with health service providing units
g) Provide SRH information through the youth corner
h) Organize Annual Youth Health Camps
