What we need
  • 1-2 page summary of takeaways and trends from interviewing key individuals (no more than 8 interviews total)
  • Identification of the board’s strengths and recommendations for areas of improvement for board members collectively and individually
Additional details

We are currently looking to grow our board with members that have expertise in the following areas: commercial real estate, lawyer, CPA/bookkeeping, childcare/education, and public officials (city and/or county).

Our board is currently being restructured.

What we have in place
  • We need help with board orientation and on-boarding, expectations, and updating of by laws and policies and procedures.
How this will help
This project will save us $2,978 , allowing us to serve more homeless families.

This project is important because the organization is looking to grow and expand and needs help with a current assessment of the board to improve those members and to set expectations for new members.

Prep: Provide Current Materials
  • Volunteer Manager provides Professional with past reviews or board performance evaluations, if any
  • Volunteer Manager communicates an overview of board’s governance practices, stewardship, membership, revenue generation, and executive management
  • Volunteer Manager outlines 1-2 specific areas of focus for the evaluation

Milestone 1: Research
  • Professional connects with Volunteer Manager for a brainstorming/overview session to better understand current situation and desired outcomes
  • Professional and Volunteer Manager mutually agree on key individuals to interview or survey (no more than 8 total, including Executive Director, Board Chair, select board members, and key staff)
  • Professional drafts survey and/or interview questions for the list created above

Milestone 2: Interviews and Evaluation
  • Professional conducts surveys and/or interviews with mutually agreed upon list from above
  • Professional reviews any relevant materials regarding the board’s performance (e.g. bylaws, previous board reviews or assessments, previous or current strategic plans)
  • Professional synthesizes findings from surveys and/or interviews into a 1-2 page outline

Milestone 3: Delivery of Board Assessment
  • Professional drafts a 1-3 page document outlining the overview and suggested areas of improvement based on their findings
  • Volunteer Manager reviews document
  • Professional delivers a finalized document and/or presentation to the Volunteer Manager, outlining their key findings and recommendations, including suggested areas of improvement

Our mission

In partnership with organizations of all faiths, Home & Hope provides a supportive safe haven for homeless families while helping them develop the tools to regain long-term self-sufficiency. Home and Hope's rotational family shelter program provides services to homeless families. We manage 32 congregations and more than 1,000 volunteers giving shelter, meals, and nurturing support. Through service volunteers, our program raises community consciousness on homelessness.
