Project details

What we need
  • A list of potential corporations or foundations to target for a specific partnership or grant opportunity
What we have in place
  • FII has a diversified funding and partnership pipeline supported by talented staff and robust infrastructure. Join us in identifying other organizations ready to change how the country views and invests in the most marginalized members of our society.
How this will help
This project will save us $3,808 , allowing us to expand enrollment, our sites, and partnerships with organizations that want to shift systems to honor the self-determination and initiative of low-income families.

Family Independence Initiative (FII) trusts and invests directly in low-income families across the nation so they can work individually and collectively to achieve prosperity. We currently serve more than 3,100 families in twelve sites nationally and are expanding to serve 10,000 families at nearly 20 sites by 2020. Simultaneously, we are working with government, philanthropy, corporations, and other stakeholder to adopt FII's value of listening to, learning from, and investing in families living with low incomes. These partnerships are fundamental to shifting the perceptions and practices that undermine low-income families' efforts to get ahead.

Our mission

Why make poverty tolerable, when we can make it escapable?

As a nation, we have missed an opportunity to invest directly in the initiative and strength of low-income families working toward economic mobility. 75% of low-income families move above the federal poverty line within four years. Yet, 50% slip back under within five years. Under the current system, families struggle to build the necessary assets to weather the next crisis and aren't rewarded for their initiative in doing so. FII is changing this resource gap for low-income families by partnering with, learning from, and investing directly in families.
