Project details

What we need
  • A detailed Operating Budget covering at least one full fiscal year
  • Expert advice on how to reconcile actual expenses with budgeted expenses
Additional details

Ideas of where to cut or grow in the future depending on how resources expand or contract.

What we have in place
  • We currently have a 2018 operating budget, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have an accountant that reconciles our books each month, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $4,290 , allowing us to send out an investigator to fully investigate a case for someone who is wrongfully convicted.

Like with any non-profit, what gets measured gets improved. While we have had an operating budget for the last several years, we've not done a good job with using it to consider room for expansion and/or where we would cut if things get lean. I would love to work with a professional to create a FY2019 budget. (Our fiscal year begins in January)

Our mission

The Midwest Innocence Project (MIP) is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to the investigation, litigation, and exoneration of wrongfully convicted men and women in our five-state region, including Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Nebraska, and Iowa. We work to free the wrongfully convicted, educate the public, and change policy to prevent future wrongful convictions.

What we do

We represent people convicted of crimes they did not commit, investigate, and litigate to regain their freedom. We also work to enact policy to prevent wrongful convictions on the front end.

Testimonials

Suma was incredible to work with. Knowledgeable, patient, and always on time --a non-profit's dream. We were incredibly lucky to learn from her expertise and get a great budget to carry us into a new year!

Operating Budget Project

It was a pleasure working with the Executive Director of MIP, Tricia. She was always willing to answer any questions that I had, and open to my recommendations about finance operations, donor strategy, and collaborating on their 2019 budget. Also, MIP is championing a great cause, so I really appreciate the chance to work with an organization making major changes in getting justice for people wrongly incarcerated.
