This project will save us $4,828 , allowing us to learn more about what works and what doesn't, tailor our training, and reach more teachers and students.

What We Need

  • A dashboard in Excel or Google Sheets that visualizes key performance indicators (KPIs), with data from up to 3 sources
  • Training on how to consistently update the dashboard for ongoing use
  • Optional: Training on how to edit dashboard and execute on formulas and functions that will allow for its evolution

How This Will Help

The success of our organization depends on us being able to quickly and clearly share data with multiple parties: program management, marketing, and especially our teacher trainers. We need a simple way to get our data from its raw form to a central location that can be understood by everyone, so we can start turning that data into action. This will help our organization personalize training for individual schools and teachers, see what is working and what is not, and make agile decisions.

What We Have In Place

We currently have a lot of (quite) clean and organized data in Google Sheets, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have some rudimentary dashboards and a knowledgeable M&E Coordinator to oversee the project, and the ability to provide any other information you need.

Project Steps

Prep: Goals and Data for the Dashboard
  • Volunteer Manager gives overview of the current data the organization has available, the desired KPIs they would like to track and the dashboard audience
  • Professional and Volunteer Manager discuss what is feasible for the dashboard given the current state of the organization’s data
  • Professional and Volunteer Manager outline next steps and timeline for the project
  • Volunteer Manager shares the necessary raw data files with the Professional
Milestone 1: Dashboard Creation & Feedback
  • Professional creates a draft of the dashboard based on initial conversation with Volunteer Manager
  • Professional shares the dashboard with the Volunteer Manager and explains how the dashboard depicts the desired KPIs
  • Volunteer Manager provides any feedback on the dashboard (up to two rounds)
  • Professional implements feedback and provides a revised dashboard
Milestone 2: Training
  • Professional creates guidelines for continued maintenance and update of the dashboard
  • Professional reviews the guidelines with Volunteer Manager
  • Professional is available for up to four weeks to address questions and troubleshoot as Volunteer Manager starts to regularly use the dashboard
Milestone 3 (Optional): Additional Advanced Training
  • Professional trains the Volunteer Manager on the key formulas, tables and charts that are used to create the dashboard, and how to make edits to them if needs evolve
  • Professional directs the Volunteer Manager to further relevant resources or an Excel Training project
Prerequisites for Professional
  • Proficiency in creating dashboards in Excel
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis
Prerequisites for Organization
  • Clear understanding of your Organization's goals for your dashboard
  • Access to the necessary raw data that will power the dashboard
  • Staff member who will be responsible for maintaining and updating the dashboard, with some experience in data analysis
  • (At least) a basic understanding of Excel
  • Note: To get a basic grounding in Excel, start with an Excel Training project
