Strategic Partnerships Research
Project details
What we need
- A list of potential corporations or foundations to target for a specific partnership or grant opportunity
Additional details
A shortlist of our "selling points", which we should highlight in grant applications/when reaching out to potential partners, to maximise our chances of success.
What we have in place
- We currently have a list of current grants and existing partners, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have several documents detailing our organization, the work we do, our mission and vision, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $2,176 , allowing us to use our time and energy, as a small but dedicated team, for all the other tasks necessary to run our growing organization and monthly clinics across remote villages in the Lamu archipelago.
Safari Doctors is experiencing a period of exciting growth and investment, that now needs to be sustained through a set of strategic partnerships and grants (ideally unrestricted or with funds allowed for core operational costs) that align with our mission, vision and objectives. This project will help me, as the Development Officer, focus my energy and efforts on a narrowed down set of organizations and potential partners, more likely to be interested in supporting our work.
Project plan
Our mission
Safari Doctors was registered as a community-based organization in Lamu, Kenya in 2015. Our mission is to provide innovative, community-driven healthcare solutions that promote well-being for marginalized communities in Lamu County.
The indigenous Aweer and Bajuni communities live within the archipelago and on the mainland near the border with Somalia. Neglect and insecurity continue to impede their right to access healthcare.
What we do
Each month, the team sets sail in a boat loaded with medicines and conducts mobile clinics across at least 11 villages. Together with regular outreach work, the team reaches up to 800 patients a month.
Safari Doctors operates a youth Health Ambassadors programme, engaging young men and women who receive basic health education and training, to facilitate our work and become
health leaders in their communities.
As part of our holistic approach to community health, our Safari Vet cares for hundreds of animals. During our outreach work, we provide veterinary services and carry out community awareness sessions on animal welfare and One Health.
Our team also operates a civic education program to build indigenous women's capacity to
engage in County health budget processes and inform policy.
In 2017, the UN in Kenya awarded the Safari Doctors team the United Nations Person of the Year award, "for the outstanding efforts and commendable work providing medical care to marginalized communities in the far reaching areas of Lamu."
Testimonials
Tasia was great to work with- friendly, proactive and efficient. She took time to research our needs and provided a very useful tool for our organization. I would certainly recommend working with Tasia- she has a genuine passion to help.
Safari Doctors was such a fulfilling organization to work with. They have a great mission and it was very easy to find fellow organizations for them to connect with based on shared values! My contact, Clementine, was so responsive to any questions I had and very easy to get into contact with. I highly recommend working with them if you can!
