Communications Strategy

What We Need

  • A communications strategy that includes:
    • Review of communications goals and target audiences
    • Identification of the best delivery methods, and the best timelines to use, based on goals and audience
    • Messaging guidelines and sample messaging, based on audiences and delivery methods
    • Outline of execution steps to implement the plan

How This Will Help

We are getting traction in our programming, but we do not have an effective way to communicate this to key stakeholders such as donors, beneficiaries and potential partners. This project will increase our visibility.

What We Have In Place

We currently have a website, facebook page with a over 500 followers which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have an idea of what we want to put across to our audiences and the ability to provide any other information you need.

    Volunteers: 25-40 hours over 4 - 6 weeks
    Organizations: 5-8 hours
  • Location: Remote (work anywhere)
  • Requirements: This project requires a short interview with the organization. If your application is accepted, you'll receive an email from Catchafire with instructions to schedule a call.

  • Prep: Project goals, timeline, and process established and initial information distributed
    • Volunteer Manager outlines any current communications activities and strategies
    • Volunteer Manager shares any existing communications materials
    • Volunteer Manager shares the perceived strengths and weakness of existing communications plan and materials
    • Professional connects with the Volunteer Manager for a brainstorming/overview session, to discuss goals, target audiences, and existing activities/materials
    • Professional and Volunteer Manager outline next steps and timeline for the project
  • Milestone 1: Professional creates first draft of the Communications Strategy and Volunteer Manager provides feedback
    • Professional creates a first draft of the Communications Strategy and shares it with the Volunteer Manager
    • Volunteer Manager reviews draft of the Communications Strategy, and provides feedback to the Professional
  • Milestone 2: Finalized communications strategy delivered to the Organization
    • Professional incorporates Volunteer Manager’s feedback and creates a final draft of the Communications Strategy
    • Professional delivers final strategy to the Organization and provides recommendations for the Organization on implementation, based on staff capacity and budget
Prerequisites for Professional
  • Experience in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field
  • Understanding of communications planning

  • Clear goals for your communications efforts, and an understanding of the audiences you want to communicate with
  • An understanding of the staff capacity and budget (if any) that you can dedicate to communications
  • Clear brand messaging in place that can be used in your communications
  • Staff member ready to prioritize this project
