This project will save us $5,250, allowing us to invest in maintenance for the house, and host our community farm stand this summer!

What We Need

  • Development of a new website based on one of the available CMS website templates (such as Wordpress, Squarespace, or Drupal)
  • Training to ensure Organization's staff members can update content and manage the site post-launch.
  • Note: Only includes websites built on CMS based platforms. This is not a website from scratch.

Nice To Have

We are committed to web accessibility. We are hoping to have a site that is compliant to the AA-level of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

How This Will Help

We are a new community center in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. Since we just started offering programs recently, we need to raise our profile in town and let more people know about the events we're hosting. We're based in a historic house, and we run a variety of community programming at the house: a community garden, free yoga classes, cultural events, historical events, and more. Without a website, it's very difficult for us to let our community know what we're doing!

What We Have In Place

We currently have a logo, branding, & (some) written copy which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have board members with experience in marketing and as website admins and the ability to provide any other information you need.

    Volunteers: 40-60 hours over 1-2 months
    Organizations: 6-8 hours
  • Location: Remote (work anywhere)
  • Requirements: This project requires a short interview with the organization. If your application is accepted, you'll receive an email from Catchafire with instructions to schedule a call.

Project Steps

  • Prep: Distribution of prep materials
    • Link to existing online presence if applicable (website, blog, social media)
    • Specific content to seed the new website
    • Volunteer Manager registers Organization's domain name with a web host if necessary
  • Milestone 1: Information gathering
    • Volunteer Manager and Professional connect to discuss goals, target audience, and align expectations
  • Milestone 2: Implementation
    • Professional uses the materials provided and agreed upon timeline to begin construction
    • Professional garners feedback from Volunteer Manager and implements appropriate changes prior to site launch
  • Milestone 3: Site launch
    • Professional launches the site on Organization's domain name
    • Professional troubleshoots any issues that may arise immediately after launch
    • Professional instructs the Volunteer Manager on how to update content going forward
Prerequisites for Professional
  • Web development experience
  • Proficient with HTML and CSS
  • Experience with CMS, such as: Wordpress, Squarespace, Tumblr and Drupal
Prerequisites for Organization
  • Clear understanding of the goals for the website and target audience
  • Specific content (copy and visual) to seed the new website
  • For customized websites which don't utilize an existing template,
  • An active domain name and web host (or budget to sign up with a web host)
  • If using an existing web host, access to your web service or admin portal and ability to share access with Professional (for example, if you use a Content Management System such as Wordpress, Squarespace, or Drupal; please provide access for Professional to the admin portal)
  • A dedicated staff member available for training and the resources to update the blog regularly
