Project details

What we need
  • A photographer who will work with the Organization over 1-2 days to capture an important event or shoot a series of photographs to tell the Organization's story
  • A set of professionally edited, high-resolution images delivered in JPEG or TIFF format suitable for web or print use
  • Note: The photographer needs to be available in the same geographical location as the Organization or be willing to travel at own expense
What we have in place
  • We will prepare a list of a few people that we want to be sure capture on camera, as well as a point person for you to connect with who can point those people out. We will also communicate a few ideas about what kinds of shots we would like (full group vs. individual musicians, pre-concert reception vs. performance, etc), but otherwise welcome your ideas and creativity!
How this will help
This project will save us $5,048 , allowing us to spend valuable resources on programming for our students while still capturing a milestone moment in our program's history.

Project STEP is in its 35th year of operations, and we are holding an event to celebrate this milestone anniversary at NEC's Jordan Hall on June 10th! The event will be a concert featuring Project STEP and NEC students, as well as some members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Due to limited staff capacity, it would be a great service to us to have a photographer dedicated to documenting this exciting event (2-3 hours). It isn't often that all students are together onstage, and we are hoping to capture this special moment and use the photographs for years to come.

Our mission

Project STEP (String Training Education Program) recognizes that certain racial and ethnic minorities are vastly underrepresented in classical music.

Our mission is to address this imbalance by identifying musically talented children from underrepresented Boston and surrounding communities, providing them with comprehensive music and string instrument instruction. We set the highest standards for our students, provide mentoring and performance opportunities, and create a network of support for our students, their families, and their communities.

What we do

Project STEP provides the following for its participants:

-Weekly private lessons
-Weekly class instruction in music theory and solfège
-Two master classes each season taught by established artists
-Chamber music coaching
-Student recitals
-Orchestral music coaching
-Opportunity to attend numerous performances each year by established artists and ensembles
-Summer music study
-Parent Council with monthly meetings
-Continuing guidance into the conservatory / university level and beyond
-Low-interest loans available for the purchase of musical instruments after graduation
