Website Construction (CMS-Based)
Website Construction (CMS-Based)
Project details
What we need
- Development of a new website using a Content Management System (CMS)
- Training to ensure Organization's staff members can update content and manage the site post-launch
- Note: This project is for a website built with a Content Management System (CMS), such as Wordpress, Squarespace, Joomla, Drupal, or Weebly . A CMS-based website can be maintained and updated easily (no coding required!)

Please check to see if you have an employer match program. Microsoft, Tableau and many other large tech companies encourage their employees to volunteer for 501c3 charities. Some use Benevity to track their contributions, and some give the nonprofit $25/hr for the time you volunteer.
What we have in place
- Oceans Initiative has a reasonable social media following (21,000 followers on Instagram; 12,000 on Twitter; 5,000 on Facebook). We already like the aesthetics of our Wordpress site. We have a small, but growing Mailchimp list. We need help integrating these resources. Our retail side (i.e., issuing tax receipts for tax-deductible donations to our nonprofit) is crude. Currently, we use PayPal, and issue tax receipts manually, and would like help exploring one of the many web tools available to the nonprofit sector to automate this process.
How this will help
This project will save us $16,822 , allowing us to By getting help with our clunky site, you will free up a month of our lead scientists' time to focus on our mission of saving marine wildlife.
We do science to inform ocean conservation, but we need help refining our Wordpress website so it can become a more powerful tool to help our mission. We need a few tweaks to help us with storytelling. More importantly, we need help with accepting online, tax-deductible donations, issuing tax receipts automatically, and linking those donors to a donor and newsletter database. Ideally, we'd like to have a way to deliver premium content to our nonprofit's core community.
Project plan
Our mission
Oceans Initiative is a team of scientists on a mission to protect marine wildlife in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. We get our feet wet in the field, and use our science to advocate for smart conservation and management of the ocean.
What we do
We use strategic science to guide effective conservation for endangered species. We work on sustainable fisheries, technological solutions to reduce ocean noise, and lead a long-running, noninvasive study of Pacific white-sided dolphins. Although we are grounded in the Pacific Northwest, we work internationally to share what we've learned and build capacity for the nonprofit sector to effect real conservation change.
