Catchafire ensures a great
volunteer project experience

“I like to know that beyond my full-time job, I can use and improve my professional skills while helping others. The donation of my time and skills is more meaningful and rewarding than giving money. The Catchafire projects have truly been mutually beneficial. I am able to provide organizations with the services they need while giving back and enhancing my skills.”

Samantha Taube

American Express Senior Marketing Analyst

“I love the fact that the organizations are vetted. I also appreciate the good balance Catchafire maintains between managing the volunteer-organization relationships and letting us handle the details of the project on our own.”

Maria Rapetskaya

Founder, Undefined Creative

Catchafire ensures that your volunteer experience will be meaningful, enjoyable, and impactful.

All of our organizations are vetted and prepared, our projects are well-scoped and flexible, and you are supported throughout your experience should any issues arise.

Why volunteer?

Professionals volunteer with Catchafire for a variety of reasons. Whether you’re interested in leading on a project you care about, building up your resume or portfolio, or exercising a skill or passion you aren’t able to capitalize on daily, our opportunities are rewarding and meaningful. Professionals have worked on Catchafire projects to sharpen their skills or develop new ones for their current jobs, keep their skills fresh between jobs, or relaunch their careers after a hiatus. Many of our professionals go on to become lifelong advocates for the organization they volunteer for and are often asked to stay on in advisory roles.

What Catchafire offers

Vetted & Trained Organizations

All of the nonprofits and social enterprises Catchafire works with have a social mission, demonstrable impact and commitment to you as a skilled volunteer. Catchafire advises all of our partner organizations to ensure they are prepared to take on a skills-based volunteer, and that the work you produce will be valued and utilized. It’s important that your experience is positive so we work hard to find the best organizations possible.

Short-Term, Flexible and Discrete Projects

All of our project listings are pre-scoped. They have clear deliverables, project steps, prerequisites and estimated time requirements. This lets you know what to expect upfront. They are all short-term (average length is 1 month) and flexible (nearly all can be done remotely). Our partner organizations choose from over 70 different projects that draw on a diverse range of skillsets including branding, communications, writing, strategy consulting, graphic design, web development, coaching, and photography to name a few. We're constantly adding to this to this list based on organization and volunteer demand.

Customized Suggestions

Filter by the specific skills and cause areas you care about on our Open Projects page to see the opportunities that suit you best. We will also send you customized suggestions to your Dashboard and via email when new opportunities are posted.

Application & Interview

Applying for a project is fast and easy through Catchafire. If your application is accepted by the organization, we coordinate a two-way interview so you and the Volunteer Manager can ask additional questions about project details, work style, etc. and get to know each other before getting started.

Project Support

While we wish all projects were smooth sailing, we realize that there may be rough patches. No need to worry. Catchafire Account Managers are facilitators, coaches, and psychologists all wrapped into one. They’re experts at getting projects back on track so your time and work will be valued.

Community of Like-Minded Individuals

Through our Dashboard, we encourage professionals to interact with each other and our partner organizations. Post your project deliverables, updates, and inspirational messages to the other purpose-minded individuals volunteering their skills.

High Quality Professionals

Jane Koltsova

Revenue Manager, Salesforce, 5 projects completed

“I can’t build a house and am not great at tutoring kids to do well on the SATs, but I know how to put together a lean and mean budget. I continue to sign up for Catchafire projects because they empower me to use my talents in the best possible way.”

Niki Bivona

Freelance Designer & Production Artist,
