What we have in place
- The CMOM board is accustomed to participating in an annual board retreat and welcomes outside participants and speakers. The board understands clearly that we are at a pivotal moment. In preparation for a new home, CMOM has been increasing the size of the board. Several board additions have just been made and others are anticipated shortly. These new individuals are eager to begin work. Both old and new board members will benefit from having a deep understanding of the organizational mission, vision, and values. This grounding is essential to supporting them as ambassadors and champions of our future.
How this will help
This project will save us $4,465 , allowing us to provide professional meeting facilitation to 32 board members and senior staff.
CMOM is going to undertake a capital project to acquire, construct, and relocate the museum. This is necessary due to insufficient space and lease termination. All efforts are driving towards this goal. Fundraising, communications, and strategic planning are essential for achieving this goal. These functions are rooted in a clear organizational mission that must be understood and internalized at all levels. It has been many years since the CMOM board has paused to reflect on the mission, vision, and values. It is essential to animate these touch points to help shape, guide and inform our work.
Project plan
Our mission
CMOM's mission is to inspire children and families to learn about themselves and our culturally diverse world through a unique environment of interactive exhibitions and programs. Since opening in a neighborhood storefront in 1973, we’ve grown into a unique 38,000 square-foot learning facility with outreach programs at nearly 50 sites throughout New York City. We’re proud to be a destination for visitors from around the world.
What we do
Each year, CMOM serves more than 350,000 people, including 65,000 children who visited the Museum as part of a school group or through one of the Museum’s community partners. CMOM is committed to making its exhibits and programs available to all, and with outreach programs at nearly 50 sites around New York City, we continually reach thousands of families who might not otherwise be able to benefit from our services.
