What we have in place

Our mission

LINC is an award-winning organization committed to achieving universal literacy.

Our mission is to equip children with foundational literacy skills essential for academic achievement by empowering families and mobilizing the community.

What we do

LINC's Community Literacy Model connects families with each other and with resources in their community to create immersive literacy environments for children during their first five years.

Our multi-generational programming is built on three key beliefs: 1. Engage children when it matters most. 2. Empower families to unlock children's potential. 3. Leverage the power of community.

Our single-session events introduce families to LINC through a variety of educational activities, such as engaging read-alouds and reading celebrations featuring diverse local children's authors. While, multi-session workshops provide LINC's most transformative impact, sharing data-driven practices for supporting literacy at key developmental stages (ages 0-1, 2-3, and 4-5). The most engaged participants continue on to our Very Involved Parent (VIP) workshops, where they graduate as community literacy advocates, prepared to lead reading programs, recruit families, and promote reading habits throughout their communities.

High-quality early childhood programs, family involvement and community support are critical in developing strong literacy skills for at-risk emerging readers. Through its unique approach, LINC builds vibrant networks that support literacy throughout the community. LINC works with schools, families, libraries, community centers, local businesses, and community partners to create a sustained, coordinated effort that gives families opportunities to practice literacy skills, model good reading behaviors, and extend classroom learning.

LINC works in the highest need neighborhoods to promote equity and create a world where every community uses their collective power to make literacy a value and right of all children.
