Project details

What we need
  • A high-resolution digital version of an illustration that can be used across multiple channels (web, print, and/or merchandising)
What we have in place
  • We currently have our Theory of Social Change established, which should make it easy for you to get started. Also, we already have a great visual illustration that explains our grassroots support vision that can be referenced.
How this will help
This project will save us $3,002 , allowing us to provide support to 30 grassroots organizations to have local impact and connect with the larger food justice movement.

WhyHunger is a leader in the global fight against hunger and poverty. Our focus is on long-term, broad-based solutions, and we support grassroots organizations and social movements to achieve specific successes in their communities, learn from each other and build together. To realize these values and beliefs, we approach our work with a specific Theory of Social Change. We desire to communicate this via an illustration to be used in all communications. This project will help increase awareness of our ultimate goal being not just to address the immediate needs of hunger, but to change the systems that perpetuate it.

Our mission

WhyHunger is a leader in building the movement to end hunger and poverty by connecting people to nutritious, affordable food and by supporting grassroots solutions that inspire self-reliance and community empowerment.

What we do

Our Programs
The Nourish Network for the Right to Food develops and distributes resources and supports peer-to-peer learning partnerships that help build the capacity of emergency food providers to address the immediate needs of struggling families and individuals while promoting community food security. WhyHunger is working to transform the charitable response to hunger in the U.S. into a more equitable and inclusive social justice movement that recognizes nutritious food as a human right. Call the National WhyHunger Hotline 1(800) 5-HUNGRY or visit WhyHunger.org/FindFood to locate a local emergency food provider and other support services.

The Grassroots Action Network works in partnership with community-based leaders, organizations and networks to build a movement for a just and equitable food system in the U.S. By supporting and promoting grassroots leadership, WhyHunger works to build capacity for community organizing and to accelerate the collective impact of community - based strategies for food justice.

The Global Movements Program supports and partners with social movements and networks to build international solidarity and advance the goals of food sovereignty and the basic rights to food, land, water and sustainable livelihoods for all people.

Artists Against Hunger & Poverty offers artists, the artist community and the music industry the opportunity to use their voices to support the movement to end hunger and poverty. Over $13 million has been raised to support innovative and effective community-based organizations fighting hunger and ensuring the right to nutritious food for all in communities all across the world by artists like Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Chicago, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Brandi Carlile and more.

Illustration Project

Working with WhyHunger!, specifically Debbie, was a fantastic experience. She laid out concise and direct objectives for visual creative work to be done, and then gave room for me to expand on those ideas throughout the proofing process. She kept in direct contact and was always available to give constructive criticism, answer any needed questions, and brainstorm new ideas or directions as the project grew to life. Absolute pleasure to work for, and would do it again on a moments notice!
