Project details

What we need
  • A press kit for the Organization (in print and electronic formats) that includes: mission and vision statement, historical information about the Organization, biographies of senior staff, fact sheet, logo design, supplementary multimedia, any relevant press releases, and contact information for the appropriate staff member at the Organization
  • Press release template for future use
  • Recommendations on how to build relationships with the media
What we have in place
  • We have many high-resolution images of HWC patients and of our conservation work. We also have a collection of videos and multiple resources with information on our history, purpose, mission, and importance.
How this will help
This project will save us $1,308 , allowing us to have 20 x-rays performed for wildlife patients when needed.

As a relatively new organization, it is critically important that we are able to utilize press relations effectively to get the word out about our work. We have put out press releases before, but have never had an organized press kit available to accompany news, wildlife and HWC information. This project will be a huge help with expanding our reach and laying a good foundation for PR moving forward.

Project plan

P
Prep: Distribution of Prep Materials
  • Professional and Volunteer Manager connect to discuss the Organization's goals for media coverage, and agree on a detailed scope of work for the press kit (e.g., what documents are needed)
  • Volunteer Manager provides background information, such as mission and vision statement, historical information about the Organization, bios of senior staff, fact sheets, relevant or recent press release, and any supplementary multimedia
1
Milestone 1: First Draft
  • Professional drafts a press release for actual upcoming announcement, or a template for future use
  • Professional makes edits to any existing press kit materials or drafts new versions, as needed - including revising any existing press releases to match the new template
  • Professional provides draft press kit materials to Volunteer Manager for review and feedback
2
Milestone 2: Final Draft
  • Professional presents the final version of the press kit materials in electronic format, with instructions for how to arrange the printed version of the documents in a folder
  • Professional provides recommendations for how to use the press kit to meet the Organization's goals for media coverage

What we do

The Hawai‘i Wildlife Center (HWC) is a nonprofit state-wide native wildlife response organization that specializes in the conservation of native birds and the Hawaiian hoary bat. The HWC is the first organization of its kind exclusively for native Hawaiian wildlife and is the only organization in Hawai‘i that provides professional wildlife response services exceeding national standards, including state-of-the-art care and rehabilitation to all species of native birds and bats from throughout the Hawaiian Islands. The HWC also provides wildlife rescue and response training throughout the Pacific region as well as public education, outreach and community service programs to students and visitors.
