Project details
What we need
Our program is a simple but powerful intervention: at each health checkup, pediatricians give free new books to children 6-months through 5-years-old. They also encourage parents to read aloud with their children daily for healthy brain development and to prepare them for success in school. The result is that parents are more likely to read with their children, kids have more books of their own at home, and they are more likely to start kindergarten with the early learning skills they need to succeed.
We'd like to visually convey the importance of our program with a clear and striking graphic illustration. We need:
- An infographic to help tell that story: to illustrate that connection between the pediatric intervention, the family reading together, and a positive outcome for the child.
- A high-resolution version of the infographic for printing, in an agreed-upon format
- A web-based version that will engage an audience with interactive elements.
What we have in place
- We currently have statistics and concise language, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have some ideas about visual organization, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $4,212 , allowing us to provide new books and literacy guidance to 200 children and their families.
We are constantly looking for new ways to convey the value of what we do. We know that a strong infographic can help us quickly and powerfully impress current and future supporters with the importance of our work.
Project plan
Our mission
Reach Out and Read of Greater New York's mission is to prepare young children to succeed in school by partnering with pediatricians to prescribe books and encourage families to read together.
What we do
We team up with pediatricians to provide books and literacy guidance to New York's youngest children, with an emphasis on children in underserved communities. We distribute books to over a quarter of a million children annually at more than 195 Reach Out and Read clinical locations throughout New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley.
The program begins for babies at the 6-month checkup and continues through age 5. At each checkup, children receive a free developmentally-appropriate book to keep, and parents or caretakers are counseled on the importance of reading aloud to children daily for the development of language and pre-reading skills. Children who participate in Reach Out and Read have stronger vocabularies and language skills, and start kindergarten ready to succeed.
Reach Out and Read of Greater New York is a regional affiliate of the national organization, Reach Out and Read, Inc.
