Additional details
As a California registered not for profit we need to comply with Not-For-Profit US GAAP. We have theoretical knowledge of US GAAP however it is difficult to find somebody here in Myanmar that has experience with applying Not-For-Profit US GAAP.
The objective of this project is to review our accounting system to make sure that it is Not-For-Profit US GAAP compliant. The output of the project would be a diagnosis of our systems & procedures and recommendations for improvements.
Ideally the candidate will spend some time training our Myanmar staff as well. They are very eager to learn especially since the Myanmar educational system has been shut down for decades.
What we have in place
- Most importantly: we have a team that is eager to learn and committed to support Myanmar rural families.
We have an accounting system set up and use SAP Business One to manage our social enterprise.
How this will help
This project will save us $6,779 , allowing us to extend our economic impact to another 100 Myanmar Rural Households.
The success of our organization depends on our ability to maximize the impact per dollar.
Project plan
Our mission
Our aim is to have a significant impact on a large scale. 76% of Myanmar’s poor live in rural areas and we offer those households an array of irrigation products, as well as micro finance and extension services that increase farmers’ yields and incomes. We have a decade's experience and are active in 10,000+ villages throughout Myanmar.
What we do
Proximity is an award winning, Myanmar based social enterprise that designs and delivers income-boosting products and services to rural households. We apply human-centered design to create low cost tools that unleash the entrepreneurial potential of our rural customers. In the past ten years, we’ve created, manufactured and distributed a range of irrigation products including treadle pumps, drip kits, water storage, and solar-powered irrigation products. Additionally, we offer financial inclusion products specifically suited to the natural cycles of rural businesses, which helps us ensure that micro-loan repayment schedules allow farmers to sell their crops when the price is highest. Lastly, we deploy a team of agronomists throughout Myanmar to provide on site assistance for farmers, helping them diagnose pests and disease and teaching them climate-smart techniques to improve their yields.
