The professional and the organization conduct an initial meeting to discuss the organization’s goals for the current storytelling project (e.g. number and length of stories), current ideas for the story, target audiences, the use of the story, and desired outcomes to achieve through storytelling.
The professional and the organization create a story inventory, if necessary, and determine the character(s) for the story.
The organization delivers available key information and resources to the professional. If necessary, the professional and the organization discuss ways to gather additional information for the story (e.g. interviews with the organization’s service recipients or program participants), and develop an information collection plan.
The professional gathers information according to the plan and creates a story outline, providing 1-2 rounds of review to the organization. The organization answers the professional’s questions and provides any additional information needed to create the story.
The professional creates a story script and incorporates the organization’s brand and core messages into the story, providing 2-3 rounds of review to the organization.
The professional makes necessary changes to the draft based on the organization’s feedback and provides a finished piece to the organization for final review.
If applicable, the professional checks back and writes a follow-up story about the progress of the story character(s).
