Barbara Davis is President and cofounder of Danbury Area Refugee Assistance (DARA). She helped organize and refine DARA's structure and worked with other dedicated members to recruit and train volunteers and implement best practices and policies for working with refugee families. As a former teacher, she co-chairs the Education Committee for DARA and acts as a liaison between the local schools and refugee parents and tutors refugee children. She has also acted as Transportation Coordinator, instructed adult family members in how to drive and obtain driver's licenses and performed a variety of other tasks related to helping families assimilate within their community. She finds working with refugee families extremely rewarding and credits an expanded world view and sense of being part of a global community with becoming involved with DARA. Barbara has two teenage boys, a husband and a very energetic black Labrador.
