Ceciel Reed is a "people person". A belief that all people are important and should have all of the experiences that life can offer motivates her to work tirelessly to benefit others. Ceciel is a life-long resident of Saginaw, MI., spending only her college years away from the city. She received her BS in Vocational Education from Western Michigan University in 1970. From there she went on the teach in the Buena Vista School District for 32 years, retiring in 2002. She likes to tell people "I still work, just not for money".

"Be Humble. Be Hungry. And always be the hardest worker in the room". -Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson- Ceciel exemplifies just that. She is always a willing worker, accepting the leadership of others and willing to take the lead when necessary.

Both of her parents were very involved with Houghton-Jones Neighborhood Task Force, Inc. when her mother passed away in August 2000. Her association with the organization began as an attempt to spend more time with her father. Twenty years later, she is still actively working to promote the mission of HJNTF. Her dedication to the organization includes holding the positions of president, vice president and treasurer of the board of directors, volunteer in afterschool and summer enrichment youth programs, co-coordinator of the community gardens as well as organizer of the annual citrus fruit sale and other fund raisers. Her community involvement does not stop with HJNTF. She is a "Registered" coach for youth bowling, serves on the board of directors for the Downtown Saginaw Farmers Market, and is active In the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc whose mission includes service to all.

She is married (48 years) and is the mother of one, a 45-year old daughter. With her husband she has had the good fortune to travel extensively. Together, they have traveled to six countries in Europe, Argentina and Peru in South America, Australia, Thailand and Africa. When she has time for herself, she plants and maintains her home garden, experiments with food preparation techniques, is an avid bowler and uses her sewing skills to create clothing for herself and her daughter.

Ceciel considers herself a "life-long learner". Her love of learning shows up in her constant searching for new and different methods and ideas. She believes that continuing to grab and reach for new ideas is the best way to get the best that life has to offer.
