Biography

Carla Stillwagon has been active in the cancer community for over 12 years after losing her father, Charles, to a four-year battle with brain cancer in 2006. She has volunteered primarily with the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life events in Scranton, Lackawanna County, and State College, PA. Having worked as a volunteer in 14 different roles, she is a strong believer in the power of volunteerism and the ability of communities to come together in impressive and impactful ways. Carla has also volunteered for the Cancer Action Network and plans to continue this work in her new city of Washington. A native of Clarks Summit, PA, Carla is a Penn State graduate with degrees in Health Policy & Administration and Labor & Employment Relations, and a Smeal College Business Certificate. She worked as an Intern at Smith Center in the summer of 2019 and came on as full-time staff in September 2019. Carla loves the welcoming atmosphere at Smith Center and hopes to help foster its continuance and expansion to other health and community organizations. After participating in a few programs over the summer, Carla has been inspired to further develop her commitment to the arts, especially as a form of healing.
