Biography

Carolyn M. Brown is an award-winning journalist, author, playwright, producer, and founder of True Colors Project, a social enterprise producing artistic works by innovative storytellers. She is Co-Founder/Executive Director of My True Colors Festival: Fighting for Social Justice & Cultural Diversity Through the Arts. MTCF is a multidisciplinary arts event (film, theater, dance, original web series, etc.) dedicated to bringing together multicultural, multinational LGBTQIAGNC+ artists and allies to showcase their works. MTCF has received funds from the Decentralization Program of the New York State Council of The Arts. Brown also is a founding Board Director of the Paterson Performing Arts Development Council, a 501C3 nonprofit committed to driving citywide cultural arts programming, establishing pathways for all artists, and promoting arts education in Paterson, NJ. Brown's career spans 20+ years developing content and products through a portfolio of multimedia platforms--print, digital, broadcast, and live events. Publication credits include Inc., Essence, Pink, Diversity Woman, The Source, Black Enterprise, Forbes Executive Edge, and Hispanic Business. She has authored countless magazine cover stories throughout her tenure in publishing.

Brown was among the youngest artists to have a staged reading at the Schomburg Center in New York with her play Accessories (1994). She was a Co-Founder of All In Black And White Productions LLC, a theatrical company with Equity Showcases and Off-Off Broadway productions performed from 2006-2011. Brown co-wrote and produced the full act plays: Flowers: A Thorny Romance, a drama tackling spousal abuse (The Producers Club, NYC, 2009; Center Stage, NYC, 2010; The Workshop Theater/ International Midtown Theater Festival, NYC, 2011); and, The Engagement, a marriage equality comedic drama (The Borrow Group, NYC, 2006; Wings Theater, NYC, 2006/2007). She also wrote and directed: Baby Mama Drama (One Page Play Festival; Where Eagles Dare, NYC, 2009).

She is the co-author of CLIMB: Taking Every Step With Conviction, Courage And Calculated Risk To Achieve A Thriving Career And A Successful Life. She has penned two other books: The Millionaire's Club and Nobody's Business But Your Own. She also served as an ambassador for the "Many Faces One Dream" economic empowerment tour hosted by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
