Shequaya is a native of Pittsburgh who graduated from Peabody High School. She worked at A Second Chance Inc. as a Fiscal & Human Resources intern throughout high school and college. This experience helped to shape her as a young adult giving her a glimpse of life amongst an organization whose mission was community centered. She attended Pennsylvania State University to study Health Policy and Administration and, upon completion of her Bachelor's degree, moved to Atlanta. During this time she participated in the Americorps: Hands-on-Atlanta program and volunteered with the Big Brother, Big Sister organization. These experiences helped to develop a greater sense of community in a new place. Upon relocating back to Pittsburgh she worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Center for Emergency Medicine.
In her spare time, Shequaya is the Vice President of the Pittsburgh Major Taylor Cycling Club and is a member of the Conemaugh Women's Race team (currently the only women's bicycle race team in the Pittsburgh region).
