I oversee the marketing, communications and branding needs for the UW School of Nursing. I am responsible for market analysis, establishing short- and long-range marketing and communication strategies and goals and raising the school's visibility among key target audiences.
I established the school's first marketing and communications strategy, which has resulted in unprecedented media coverage, growth in social media following and engagement, brand awareness and community support.
October, 2006 - July, 2014
I helped redefine our organization’s master brand strategy, story, voice, as well creating and implementing the organization’s first comprehensive brand identity and guidelines.
I continue to be responsible for ensuring that the brand is executed correctly and consistently across our entire organization in all channels.
I am directly responsible for defining the marketing and communications strategy for a number of our organization’s key initiatives and entities. This work includes performing competitive analysis; writing value propositions and messaging; performing naming analysis; developing marketing strategy and tactics supporting business growth goals; overseeing visual identities; and measuring effectiveness of marketing initiatives.
My other duties include identifying, developing and implementing new brand tools for efficiency and brand compliance while reducing costs; and solving problems and/or refocusing projects that have stalled or veered from strategy.

I wrote and edited news releases, media alerts, calendar listings, photo cutlines, backgrounders, publications geared to staff, volunteers, donors, supporters and other hospital literature or press materials as needed.
I generated content and assigned stories and graphic elements, including photos, for publications and making sure deadlines were met.
I cultivated story ideas to pitch to media.
I facilitated media coverage of hospital events, programs, treatments, clinics, volunteers, faculty and staff.
I supervised public relations interns, as well as staff and freelance photographers, graphic designers and photographers.
I maintained, organized and distributed hospital clips and broadcast stories.
I coordinated copy, art and design concepts for hospital advertising.
I developed hospital marketing plans.
I wrote award nominations for hospital volunteers and projects.
January, 2003 - March, 2005
I wrote news releases and conducted media outreach related to medical research appearing in peer-reviewed journals, leading-edge technology, new clinical treatments and compelling patient stories.
I pitched story ideas and UT Southwestern experts to local and national media.
I facilitated other media interviews as needed. I wrote for the medical center’s newspaper and for the medical center's annual report and foundation magazine.
I produced video news releases.
