Alexander B.
Biography
The beginnings of Black Outside, Inc. can best be described as a labor
of love. Love for the outdoors and love for the community. Between 2018
and 2019, founder Alex Bailey embarked on a journey to observe and
shadow summer camps across the country to better understand the
impact outdoor programming has on youth. He took those learnings and
began building a culturally relevant program in the city of San Antonio.
In January 2019, Alex, alongside a community of passionate education
advocates, founded Black Outside, Inc.
With only 1% of Texas State park participants identifying as Black/African
American, Black Outside, Inc. disrupts this narrative by reconnecting
Black youth to the outdoors through joyful, restorative experiences.
Alex is current Echoing Green fellow and 2019 TEDxSan Antonio speaker.
