Biography

Kimmy Maniquis (she/her/siya) is a mother, daughter, sister and Pinay who comes to SIPA with a 20-year career in youth serving organizations in Southern California and the Bay Area. Her parents found a home in Historic Filipinotown after meeting and starting a family in LA in the early 70s, having immigrated from the Philippines just years prior. Kimmy's academic background in Ethnic Studies and Social Sciences (UC Irvine) and Asian American Studies (San Francisco State University), which has brought her to many meaningful spaces including the Cross-Cultural Center at UC Irvine, Pin@y Educational Partnerships at SFSU, and most recently as the Executive Director at CCEJ (the California Conference for Equality and Justice) and Peer Health Exchange LA. Kimmy also has roots in the arts as a dancer, having been active in Kaba Modern, Culture Shock Oakland and Culture Shock Los Angeles, where she currently serves as the Vice President of the Board of Directors. Kimmy has made her home in Long Beach with her partner Perci and their children Isagani and Elyas, and serves as a commissioner for the City of Long Beach's voter-established Ethics Commission.
