I enjoy writing grant proposals, reports, newsletters fundraising appeals, brochures, blogs and social media for nonprofit groups that help people, including children, immigrants, and the formerly incarcerated, and also animals. I have served on the Boards of Directors for two nonprofits: Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary in Delaware and the Reston Community Center in Virginia. I have volunteered as a Big Sister, an aide at a YWCA after school program, and an ESL teacher. I have also volunteered at a regional theater, a public access TV station, and a nature center.
I created and maintained a website, blogged, and did social media to advocate for adoption of dogs and cats in a region served by a high-kill shelter. In 2017 I wrote and self-published a novel that is based on my animal rescue work. (see link.)
Prior to retiring I worked as an urban planner for local governments and a public policy consultant for the federal government. In those positions I wrote briefing papers, power point presentations, research reports, and environmental impact assessments.
