I was born in Los Angeles and raised in Pomona (30 miles east of LA). I graduated from Mt. SAC (AA degree) and Pitzer (BA degree) and Stanford (Lifetime Teaching Credentials in English, French and Psychology and MA in Education) and San Jose State University (MA in Counselor Education). I was a teacher, project coordinator and counselor in the East Side Union High School District in San Jose, CA for 37 years. During that time, I was a founding member of the Santa Clara County Alliance of Black Educators (SCCABE), the California Alliance of African American Educators (CAAAE), and the Dr. Frank S. Greene STEM Scholars Program (GSP). In 2016, I changed the name of the CAAAE to A Black Education Network (ABEN) to do national education for liberation work).
