MissionThe mission of unPrison Project is to empower and inspire incarcerated women and girls with life skills and mentoring to plan and prepare for a successful life after prison.
What We DoWe provide programing to serve women and girls in prisons across the United States, to promote life skills and mentoring so inmates can achieve a better quality of life once outside prison, and never return. Part of our program is to supply materials and books for an all-prison book club in women's prisons, to encourage literacy and as training tools.
Our vision is also to draw public awareness about the rapid increase in incarceration for women, 800% over the last ten years, most sentenced for nonviolent crimes. The issue is urgent in that this is also generational. 2.3 million children, most under the age of 10 have a parent in prison. Education is one key for changing these startling figures.
