Texas Appleseed's mission is to promote social and economic justice for all Texans by leveraging the skills and resources of volunteer lawyers and other professionals to identify practical solutions to difficult systemic problems.
What We Do
Texas Appleseed's mission is to promote social and economic justice for all by identifying practical solutions to difficult systemic problems. We do this by conducting careful research on specific issues, developing concrete policy recommendations, and engaging in passionate advocacy.
Right now, among other issues, we are working to end youth homelessness, ensure Texas' schools are just and fair for all children, end abuses in the payday and auto-title loan industry, and develop better practices for the criminal and juvenile justice systems.
We have a track record of success - from helping pass legislation that reduced the number of students being sent to adult criminal courts for minor misbehavior by 72%, to getting cities in Texas to pass an ordinance protecting payday borrowers that now covers more than a quarter of Texas residents.
