Mission

To increase the vibrancy and engagement of the Sydney Jewish community by fostering Jewish life and learning in an inclusive way.

What We Do

Shalom is a not for profit organization committed to community building.

We incubate programs within the Sydney Jewish community to empower young adults to take up leadership roles and actively create community. Currently we incubate Adamama (Sydney's first urban Jewish farm), PJ Library (providing monthly Jewish childrens books to families across Australia), The Sydney Jewish Writers Festival and Limmud (a conference of Jewish ideas)

We also support a number of initatives in the community, including Jewish professional theatre, leadership training, Jewish comedy, and Holocaust memorial.

Shalom operates Shalom College at UNSW in Sydney. We celebrate diversity and welcome residents from multicultural backgrounds, faiths and affiliations. Our values of community, learning and giving are inspired by the Jewish founders of the college. We celebrate Jewish traditions as well as a range of other cultural festivals and holidays that are important to our diverse residents. We have a large cohort of Indigenous residents and the Shalom Gamarada Indigenous Residential Scholarship Program provides scholarships to Indigenous students. This program was established to make a contribution to closing the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians through higher education and by increasing the number of Indigenous professionals.

We are also home to AUJS - the Australian Union of Jewish Students - who provide meaningful Jewish experiences to students to develop and strengthen their Jewish identity and leadership.
