Mission

The San Antonio Book Festival unites readers and writers in a celebration of ideas, books, libraries, and literary culture.

What We Do

Founded in 2013 as a program of the San Antonio Public Library Foundation, the San Antonio Book Festival (SABF) brings 100+ authors to San Antonio and offers edutainment for all ages at the annual festival where literature and imagination are celebrated, free and open to all. In its 8-year history, SABF has brought 630 authors to the city from across the nation and has distributed more than 9,000 books to students at the festival and in Title I schools.

SABF's main purpose is to produce the annual book festival, a free event filled with author presentations and panels, book signings, and family-friendly activities. Its educational initiative is Authors in Schools, which pairs festival writers with Title I schools for free presentations to encourage a love of reading and gifts each student with a free, signed book. The Get Lit Author Series helps SABF stay relevant throughout the year, bringing authors to communities outside of the annual festival. The newest program is Lit Crawl, a block party for book lovers aged 21 and up meant to build an audience to grow with SABF.
