What We Do
Promise House operates several residential, counseling and outreach programs to meet the needs of our population:The Emergency Youth Shelter Program – Our flagship program provides short-term care to homeless youth ages 6-18. During their time in the shelter, each client receives three healthy meals per day, a medical and dental check-up, a psychiatric evaluation, counseling and age-appropriate life skills training. Clients under age 18 attend school on-site in our certified Dallas Independent School District classrooms. Youth can remain in the program until our case managers locate a safe, alternative living arrangement.
The Wesley Inn Program – A group home for pregnant and parenting homeless teen moms ages 14-20, Wesley Inn provides food and shelter as well as pre- and post-natal care, daycare services, information about available government resources and life skills training. All mothers must be employed or attending school full-time to remain in the program.
The Transitional Living Program – A two-year residential program for older youth (ages 16-24) learning to live independently. Clients begin in a group home setting and transition into their own apartments by the end of the program. We also reserve apartments for pregnant and parenting youth and their families.
To find youth in need of our services, our Street Outreach team searches pockets of the city where homeless youth often congregate, including Deep Ellum, DART bus stations and libraries. We also operate weekly Drop-In Centers at six Dallas Independent School District schools. Drop-in centers provide food, case management and referral information to homeless DISD students. Promise House also offers a Community Counseling Program, which aims to prevent the crises that lead to youth homelessness by offering Dallas County families free, solution-focused counseling. We are one of the ONLY resources in Dallas County for this vulnerable and often invisible population.
