Mission

Polaris Productions makes it possible for young people of all levels of experience to have a warm, non-competitive and supportive community in which to grow and learn, and experience the joy and excitement of performing challenging and great musical theater.

What We Do

We produce musicals performed by young people ages 8-19. We are inclusive, meaning that we use auditions to match kids with appropriate roles, not to exclude kids with less experience in favor of kids with a lot of experience. We cast everyone who auditions, space permitting, and provided the child and the parent can make the necessary commitment to the rehearsal process.

We ask/require parents to volunteer, and invite NYC high school student volunteers who need to fulfill their community service graduation requirement. Each production builds a strong community experience and this is what sets us apart from many, if not most, youth theaters in NYC.

Many kids who want to perform are not given the opportunity. Either they aren't old enough, or perhaps they haven't learned the skill of auditioning well, or don't have the experience that a director requires. Or perhaps a previous experience was not a positive one for the child and they came away frustrated and feeling badly about themselves. For a kid who wants to perform, having the opportunity to do so, in a warm and supportive fellowship, can make a huge difference in a young person's life -- in fact, it can change their life forever. This is what we do.
