Mission

Breaking the cycle of poverty by providing technology education, access, and job training for individuals and families in low-income communities.

What We Do

Founded in 1995 as a neighborhood-based effort to increase access to personal computers, Per Scholas was an early pioneer in bridging the digital divide for families and children in the South Bronx -- one of the nation's poorest Congressional Districts. In 1999, Per Scholas expanded into workforce development, launching the first tuition-free IT job training and placement program in the region.

In our state-licensed Institute for Technology, Per Scholas provides comprehensive, free IT professional training, placement and ongoing support services to more than 400 underskilled adults each year. Independent research proves that our approach creates impressive income gains.

During the IT technician training program, participants complete intensive hands-on training for a career in Desktop Support / IT Help Desk obtaining the CompTIA A+ at the end of the 15-weeks. Equal emphasis is placed on developing the professional skills required in today's workplace such as effective communication, leadership, and teamwork. The course is free to qualified participants providing access to higher education despite economic barriers.
