Mission
The mission of Part of the Solution (POTS) is to be a loving community in the Bronx that nourishes the basic needs and hungers of all who come to our door. Founded in 1982 as a soup kitchen, POTS has expanded its mission from feeding its neighbors to nourishing the myriad of needs of the community in a holistic way.What We Do
DAY-TO-DAY SERVICESClose to 800 people currently receive their mail at POTS and 20 people get free haircuts each week. POTS also offers shower facilities.
EMERGENCY FOOD PROGRAMS
The Food Pantry - our fastest growing program - provides groceries for an average of 150 families per week.
The Community Dining Room - one of the few in NYC open 7 days a week - serves an average of 325 people daily.
POTS provides Back-to-School supplies, Thanksgiving turkeys, Holiday gifts and parties for hundreds of families and children each year.
NEXT-STEP SERVICES
Case Management services helped close to 1,000 people including 200 families with 250+ children identify barriers to stability and take steps to address them last year.
Application Assistance and Legal Representation for public benefits (Food Stamps, Social Security) resulted in $1,000,000 being secured for POTS' community in 2009.
Legal Eviction Prevention Services enabled 90 families with 200+ children to remain in their homes last year.
