Mission
Using Signing Exact English (S.E.E.) and oral communication we prepare deaf and hard-of-hearing students to be self-confident, articulate and academically competitive learners and contributing community members. What We Do
We support students in becoming self confident, articulate, academically competitive learners and community members who demonstrate that hearing loss is a difference, not a disability. Now, in our thirty-second year, we could not be more pleased with the results of our work. The School’s teaching techniques continue to deliver superior educational results with deaf and hard of hearing children in preschool through 8th grade. In addition to academic work, NWSDHH's program includes classroom and social interactions with hearing students (mainstreaming) to ensure that our deaf and hard of hearing students are ready to participate on an equal footing in a hearing society. We currently contract with more than 20 school districts across the Puget Sound region and through our outreach activities are partnering with these districts to identify students best served by our school. Our data shows early intervention and identification of deaf and hard of hearing children makes a huge difference over time. If NWSDHH gets these children early on, we can have a significant effect on their English skills, academic, listening and speech skills. Through our unique teaching methods, we help them perform academically at grade level. Our goal is to ensure that NWSDHH students graduate ready to achieve at the level of their hearing peers academically and socially.
