Mission
New Voices Foundation’s mission is to improve the lives of children with severe communication and physical challenges and their families. The ultimate goal of New Voices is inclusion in all aspects of life. While New Voices’ focus has been in the Triangle region of North Carolina, New Voices is committed to replication across the state and the country. What We Do
Many books have been written and studies completed supporting the benefits of education—both for an individual and society as a whole. Children who struggle to speak or walk are often underestimated. Proving that they can communicate and learn is an important step to a better life.New Voices is “an advocate” informing professionals and the general public about the underestimated capabilities of New Voices children. Programs such as screenings and discussions surrounding the award-winning documentary, Certain Proof, or book signings with Sharon Draper, author of “Out of My Mind” have provided an entertaining way to combine disability awareness with the arts.
New Voices is “an engine’ that funds programs implementing one or more of the New Voices core program essentials. Projects, focusing on improving assessment techniques for children in the classroom, provide insight on the complexities of teaching children with disabilities. Other projects have made equipment readily available to classrooms and families or provided specialized training to public school personnel working with these children.
Lastly, New Voices is “a resource” for information about how to replicate the New Voices Model in other areas of the state or country. Any project that New Voices undertakes is structured to be replicated elsewhere, including the prestigious Lara Jane Parker Awards event.
