Mission

The New Jersey Association of School Librarians advocates for high standards for school librarianship and school library media programs in the public, private and parochial schools in New Jersey to ensure that students and staff become critical thinkers and effective and ethical users of information. The Association fosters excellence in the school library media program by providing school library media specialists with educational opportunities and current information.

What We Do

Did you know that in recent years school districts have been slashing funding to non-classroom programs including the school library program and staff? This despite the fact that numerous studies, including one of our own, prove that well-funded, well-staffed school library programs have a positive impact on student achievement. Through active, collaborative library programs guided by credentialed School Library Media Specialists, students are empowered to achieve college and career readiness We need to make sure that everyone in the State is aware of the value of school library programs, so that one day every student in every school in New Jersey will have the foundation to succeed in college and career.
