Mission

Founded in 1935, the not-for-profit Marin History Museum celebrates the traditions of innovation and creativity of the people of Marin County. Through responsible collection, preservation and exhibition, the Museum provides collaborative educational and programming opportunities to all segments of Marin’s communities.

What We Do

The Marin History Museum provides visitors of all ages and walks with access to its collections, stories and programming, all related to Marin County history. Museum administration and galleries are located in the City-owned historic Boyd Gate House in downtown San Rafael; and the Museum’s Craemer Family Collections & Research Facility in Novato, California houses the Museum’s collection of 20,000 artifacts, over 200,000 historical photos and a research library. Programming includes historical walking tours, author spotlights, historical lectures, interactive, hands-on cultural activities and school traveling “trunk” shows in which the history is brought into the classroom.
