Main Line Deputy Dog's mission is to empower people with disabilities to lead an independent life by teaching them to train their own service dog-their deputy dog.

What We Do

Traditionally trained service dogs are unobtainable for most: they are rarely covered by health insurance, can cost $30,000-$50,000, and all providers of traditional service dogs in the Philadelphia area have a 5-year waitlist. MLDD's novel program reduces these expenses to a fraction: our dogs live with their handlers during training, and we teach students to train their service dogs themselves in weekly classes. After a typical two-year training period, 80% of MLDD's students graduate with dogs capable of passing Assistance Dogs International's rigorous certification test.
