Mission
The Kalamazoo Literacy Council (KLC) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide quality literacy education that enhances the lives of adults through programs designed to increase reading, writing and spelling skills. The KLC was founded in 1974 and is the only organization in Kalamazoo County with the exclusive purpose of providing free basic literacy instruction to adults. The KLC provides tutor training for qualified volunteers and provides free one-on-one tutoring, computer, writing, and English as a Second Language classes and educational materials to adults who have been evaluated by the KLC.
